Several long-term and short-term training programs in the areas of Thermal, Hydro, Transmission & Distribution etc. are being conducted at NPTI Delhi.Besides imparting training in the areas of Thermal, Hydro and Transmission & Distribution covering nearly 10,000 power professional of various levels annually, NPTI also conducts following industry interfaced academic programs with the objective to create a pool of committed and competent professionals equipped with appropriate technical skills to steer the Indian Power Sector:-

  Academic Programs at NPTI Delhi:


  • Four Year B.Tech./B.E Degree in Power Engineering  (AICTE Approved )
  • One Year Post Graduate Diploma Course in Thermal Power Plant Engineering
  • One Year Post Diploma Course in Thermal Power Plant Engineering
  • Six Months O&M of Transmission and Distribution System for Engineers
NPTI provides Consultancy Services to Power Sector organizations in the field of Human Resource Development, Training Need assessment, Recruitment, Preparation of DPRs as per APDRP schemes, Setting up of Training Institutes etc.

     NPTI  conducts a four year Degree course in Power Engineering, which is the first of its kind in India. The programme is directed at the young aspirants who are looking for bright career in power industry, the backbone of all industrial activity.
The main objective is to prepare skilled Engineering Executives for Power Sector and allied industries. The course is designed to have equivalence to mechanical/Electrical Engineering proficiency and recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). It is affiliated to GGSIPU University, DELHI.


This course satisfies the mandatory requirement of Gazette Notification issued by Govt. of India, which stipulates that:
NO PERSON SHALL BE AUTHORIZED TO OPERATE OR UNDERTAKE MAINTENANCE OF ANY PART OF WHOLE OF GENERATING STATION OF CAPACITY OF 100 MW AND ABOVE TOGETHER WITH ASSOCIATED SUB-STATION UNLESS HE IS ADEQUATELY QUALIFIED AND HAS UNDERGONE THE SPECIFIED TRAINING AT AN INSTITUTE RECOGNIZED BY THE CENTRAL ELECTRICITY AUTHORITY.
The participant sucessfully completing this course are licensed to operate Thermal Power Stations (Including Captive Power Plant) as per statutory requirement under Indian Electricity Act. 1956 {Rule 3 2A} amended in 1981.

      Post Graduate Diploma Course (PGDC) in Thermal Power Plant Engineering - One year full time course is running since 1996-97 in different regional Institutes including NPTI-NR. Every year the course starts in August and admission to this PG course is open for graduates of full time B. Tech /B.E. or equivalent in Mechanical / Electrical / Instrumentation selected through common entrance test (CET) for which advertisement appears in leading national newspapers / Employment News in the month of March/April. The PG Diploma Course is having an exceptionally encouraging response and many Power Companies recruited this trained man power through campus recruitments over the years. This course is for fresh and practicing Graduate Engineers for a period of one (1) year.
     Every year the Common Entrance Test (CET) is conducted by NPTI, normally on third Sunday of June at Delhi, Faridabad, Nangal, Nagpur, Sholapur, Bengalore, Neyveli, Durgapur and Guwahati.The course fee for this program of the year 2012-13 is Rs. 1,80,000 under non sponsored category. Students of Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics/Control & Instrumentation are eligible for this course. Normal starting time is 3rd week of August.

Post Diploma Course (PDC) in Thermal Power Plant Engineering- one year Full time Course is running since 2001 in NPTI (NR), for people with three years full time Diploma in Mechanical/ Electrical / Instrumentation Engineering. Every year the course starts in October-November and admission to this Post Diploma course is based on the marks obtained in qualifying diploma and minimum first division in 10th/High School. Advertisement for admission appears in leading national newspapers / Employment News in the month of July/August.
The course fee for this program of the year 2012-13 is Rs. 1,20,000 under non sponsored category.
Students of Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics/Control & Instrumentation are eligible for this course. Normal starting time is November.

Operation & Maintenance of Transmission & Distribution Systems
This unique course is being conducted in the country by NPTI only. The course covers training on Operation & Maintenance of Power Transmission & Distribution System.It is of 26 Weeks duration for those who desire to make a career in the power Sector.On successful completion of this course the Graduate Engineers will find good job opportunities and preference in employment with various power companies.The aim of the course is to develop a pool of technically trained manpower readily available for recruitment to the Indian Power Sector in the area of Operation and Maintenance of Electrical Power Transmission and Distribution Systems.The course syllabus is Approved by Central Electricity Authority (CEA ), Government  of  INDIA under Indian electricity rules 1956 (2B) rule 3.
The course fee for this program of the year 2012-13 is Rs. 1,20,000 under non sponsored category.
Every year the course starts in October-November and admission to this course is based on the marks obtained in BE/B.Tech. (Branches eligible are Electrical, Electrical & Electronics and Power Engineering) and minimum first division in 12th/Intermediate. Advertisement for admission appears in leading national newspapers / Employment News in the month of July/August.
